Nikon D3100 Preview

www.FroKnowsPhoto.com It is a huge day for Nikon Shooters and future DSLR camera owners. The announcement of the D3100 is a sign of things to come from Nikon. This will usher in a whole new crop (no pun intended) of sensors that should produce better quality photos and video. The D3100 will most likely be the first camera out of the gate with a D90 D300s and D700 replacements to follow. Let’s look at the main features I am most interested in in the new D3100. The new CMOS sensor is a step forward over the CCD of the D3000. It should produce much better still images at all the different ISO settings. Keep in mind, higher ISO is in no way a replacement for using faster glass (F1.4,1.8 and 2.8 lenses) The new sensor also gives the D3100 the capability of recording full HD 1080 video at 24 frames a second. At lower quality settings you have the option to change the frame rate. The coolest most exciting addition for me is the ability to have continuous Autofocus during video recording. This means you will have an easier time when zooming and tracking a subject to hopefully get your focus right. A side note is that your internal microphone will pick up the sound of the focus motors when recording video. I feel that this will be a very very solid camera for capturing still images. The new sensor will certainly make this a better camera in higher ISO’s. I do have a few concerns about this camera and they mostly fall on the video side of things. In my research so far I can not

  5. Hi Jared, I just got a D3100 and it seems to be a decent camera however when I needed to adjust my depth of field and wanted to preview it, I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Do you have a tip on how to do a preview. Thanks

  6. Man I was looking at the camera studying it for many hours then stumbled on your video . I could also care less about auto modes and you just sold this camera to me . if I happen to do any short films Ill just record the audio separate .

but anyway , love the videos , keep them rolling .

  7. pls check out “open source software” when it comes to RAW composing . I have been on linux so long I dont know whats going on in windows world but friend say they have no problem with RAW and its free community driven software ** note NOT FREEWARE , that usually means TROJAN or VIRUS** good luck !

  8. Jared! I would like to shoot in RAW, but I use PhotoScape to edit (because I can’t afford PhotoShop) and it doesn’t accept RAW files. I downloaded RawShooter Essentials to convert the RAW files to JPEG, but even that for some reason, isn’t detecting my RAW files.

    HELP! ):

  9. what camera are you using to shoot this video? The part where you are sitting down and talking. I want a camera for shooting a hosting show myself… any ideas?

  10. Cool! but if your camera has infrared, you or someone who want to try time-lpase photography, could use an infrared time-lapse remote like this one: tempus.bymac.org

  11. FUCK YOU! WHAT THIS VID ABOUT?
“Look at my head, beard, sunglases”.
    FAKE AND GAY!

  12. I am aware. I actually responded under the post that said “I was going to buy a Sony”. I would never, ever, but a Sony product.

Somehow when I responded under his post, I got you. Its YouTube, figures.
