So my Nikon D40x decided to die on me while covering an event. Luckily the main pieces of the night were captures by this point. I get a message reading : Error. Press shutter release button again. After several google searches I saw that it means the shutter must be replaced. If anyone has an easy fix, please let me know

Don’t know if you still are looking to fix this or still care but I just fixed my D40 giving the same problem this morning.
How much did it cost to repair? Who did you send it to? Mine gave the same error message and I’m wanting to keep it as a backup camera like you did.
This has happened to my D3100, I’ve got a photography exam next week at college, anyone got any advice or know what causes it?

Hey men… my D40x died too… it is a amazing camera…
luckily i had 5 days left on an extended warranty from J&R… they replaced the shutter at no charge!
I had just bought a SB900 Flash….which I had to return right away for a D5000 body….the d40x took 3 weeks for them to get back to me. It became my back up camera. Since then I have traded in the D5000 for the D5100. I recommend EXTENDED WARRANTY EVERYTIME!
I feel your pain man, I Just had the same thing happen to my D40x and it’s such a great camera. Hope all is going well with your photography!
What did you do to fix your D5000? I’m about to open mine up now.

To fix that issue, go to Google, type “d40x jacko” and follow the 1st link
I’ve had the same problem with my D60. Please let me know if you find a solution!
@ parisparisb yea it just happend to my D5000 too did u ever find out how to fix it?
I fixed 90% shutter problem with grease in gear. When the Error message appear , I use a gummy hammer knock on the bottom. Press the shutter again . It works !
